The Teleseis system is a marine seismic technique that yields seismic wavefield information on shallow marine geology.  The term "teleseis" is a conjunction of "telemeter" and "seismic", in this case meaning the use of radio telemetry to deliver seismic data from a seafloor source to the survey vessel:

 

 

For example, one very useful application of this system is examination of Surface waves for geotechnical properties examination of the shallow sub-bottom. Processing these surface wave events can yield parameters such as elastic moduli and bearing capacity of the seafloor - see below.
